That’s Like Me!

Life is especially tough for Joey. Not only does he struggle with ADHD, his family is truly dysfunctional. Readers will sense that Joey is a good kid who’s trying to do the right things, but often without much support. Readers will likely laugh and weep for Joey.

Richards’ Memory Foundations for Reading are designed to help students transform a struggle with basic phonics into a successful learning experience. While some children learn sound/symbol relationships quickly and easily, others need more practice and there are some who struggle greatly. The visual mnemonic system presented in MFR can be modified and adapted for a variety of learning situations.

Simpson intersperses her narrative with nontechnical explanations of dyslexia and what is being done to treat it. But despite growing public awareness and advances in research, dyslexia remains a frustrating and frightening disorder.

It begins with an overview of current ADHD diagnosis including definitions and a sample of a case study. Each subsequent chapter reframes certain ADHD symptoms in a positive way and reinforces this transformation with awareness exercises designed to increase the appreciation of the child’s traits.
