I am a students at Augusta state University. I am a Special Education major. In doing my school lab requirements I have been informed that I will be working with some children who have a learning disability. Could someone please give me some information on making modifications, for learning diabilities that have worked with other children? Thank You

Modifications or accomodations? Which or both?

And what class will you be teaching and it would help to know what learning differences your children will have?

Some modifications and accomodations are born of each situation but there are some general ones that work fairly well.

Sara thank you for getting back to me. My professor did not tell us what disabilities the children would have. She only said they would be special ed. students. Some mat be in general ed. and some may be in resource rooms. I don’t think she wants us to go in the classroom and say ok here is my LD student, and here is my MI student. I think she wants us to see the student first then recognize the diability. Does that make sense? We start our labs on the 22 of October. She said for us to look into some modification for students with learning disabilities. Could you give me some general modifications on students who may have a disability in reading and math? This is my first lab experience. I would like to work with prek-5th grade when I finish school. I have one year left. Thank you for your time.

within LD in Depth. There are lots of good suggestions and you can focus in more clearly when you know a bit more.

I have been working with LD students for about two years focusing in math. One of the most significant modifications I do for one of my students is to reduce his assignment. I may have him do only the odd number - but I make sure that he is still getting all of the pertinent information. For those students who have visual or writing disabilities, I will sometimes have the students turn their paper sideways so that they can line up the columns of the numbers easier. Check out LD Online for suggestions too! Hope this helps
