Bigots take so many forms… It is easy to spot the ones in the white hoods, or with the swastikas tattooed on their forearms. Not as easy to spot the ones who use racial pride and historic anger better left in the rchives than in our more advanced society. We see the madmen in the Middle East and we know them for what they really are…
But what of the subtle ones, the ones who exist all around us and never get recognized for who they are in the deep recesses of their petty, narrow minds? The ones who achieve positions of prominence and professional stature? The ones who are too often entrusted with that most precious national treasure, our children?

Re: I can't sem to get enough of these stories...
Derrick, I teach LD students. I love what I do. However, they are not more precious than you, I, my own children, the neighbor’s children or president Bush’s children. Please with the inaccurate emotional digs.
Re: I can't sem to get enough of these stories...
I think probably what Derrick meant was….not that these children are the most important, just that they are important. I commend you if you enjoy your job and want to teach LD students and take time to help them achieve goals
Believe me, as a mother of an LD student…there are many more teachers who aren’t willing to help then there are ones who are.
We parents of LD students feel they deserve to learn as much as any other child but they aren’t given the chance.
Re: I can't sem to get enough of these stories...
you just hit the nail on the head. my son just started 7th grade which is JrHigh this year feeling pretty good about himself, but as of right now he is confused, frustrated and beginning to not really care. He has always been a fighter- right now I am truly fighting a battle I have tried the nice approach and now it looks like down and dirty. He is too important to let anyone put out his fire and desire for his dreams. LD kids are very special, he has taught me so much and I thank God everyday for what he has given me a son that is sooooo special and who truly has compassion for people unlike the teachers and faculty I have been dealing with.
I totally agree with the statement that you made. I work in the private sector with children who have LD. There are so many people who aren’t truly invested in their lives, and I consider them to be Bigots. They are collecting free checks and could care less about teaching the most preciuos people in the world, children with learning disabilities.
