Here’s a site that Dad posted that has connections to Asperger sites that you might find helpful.
Re: Aspergers ?
Asperger’s is considered to be on the autism spectrum.
Because of the problem with noises, I think you should check out the Connor’s Corner website. Although the child described there is a more severe case, the mother has a section devoted to different types of auditory problems and how they impact behavior.
What I would suggest is that you get a CAPD evaluation. A good website for information about CAPD is http://pages.cthome.net/cbristol/ This evaluation is usually covered by medical insurance. Sound sensitivities are often highly treatable with appropriate therapy — such as Samonas, Tomatis, AIT (Berard), etc. — and a CAPD audiologist should be able to give you some reasonable advice.
For the visual perception problems, if you haven’t already, I would consult a developmental optometrist. You can find DO’s at http://www.covd.org.
Also, if you haven’t already, you may want to get an evaluation of sensory integration by an occupational therapist trained to assess it.

Maybe look into nonverbal learning disorder? I believe I have read that it is on a spectrum with autism. ldonline has info and links to nonverbal learning disorder. I thought of that when you mentioned his talking as a primary way of communicating.
