LD in High School

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am a new teacher working in a high school environment since October and I find I enjoy it more than when I was in an elementary school. I find it is challenging to find ways to service students in an inclusion classroom. What is the best way to service students who have an IEP in the inclusion classroom? I have found myself sitting there listening to the lecture along with the students, the students will not ask for help, so once again, my question is. How do I service these students?

Sometimes you have to keep an eye out for what they’re having difficulty with. It’s also helpful to watch the tests results. Are they getting their homework in?
Can they get the reading done?

If they’re only listening to lectures and you get no other time with them, it can be hard for you to help them. If you get other time with them, you could help them with their notes, particularly as you heard the lecture to. You could even take notes yourself and share those notes. Help them review for tests if they have them. Note what homework has been assigned and help them to complete it.

Thanks for sharing these ideas I will most definitely use them. The idea about taking notes will be most helpful because the Literature class has been my most challenging and this idea will be beneficial. Thanks for taking the time to share these ideas.
