I am a future secondary education teacher and have a question about inclusion of students with a disability in the general education classroom. How do you know if you’re giving the appropriate amount of attention to all your students? Is there a way to monitor the amount of attention you give a student with a disability versus the other students?
Re: appropriating attention
Read the child’s face. Is the child happy and comfortable in your classroom? Does he/she smile and look forward to school? If so, you’re giving the child the right amount of attention.
That same would be true of all your students. Visit classrooms. You can sense the difference in them. Some classrooms are communities and others are just classrooms.
Decide which you want yours to be. Don’t use practices that divide the classroom into “good kids” and bad kids.
