I am a Resource teacher in a private school and would like to see how other private schools organize a resource program. If you have any information or sites I can look up, please let me know. Thanks! DJ
Re: Private Schools/Resource programs
Ours is very informal at best. Here by state law if we have six children we deem in need of services, the intermediate unit will send someone to spend one day a week with us and see our “identified” students.
Resource rooms to my observation go one of two ways. Either they offer interventions and tutoring to develop skills or they do class/homework support. To do interventional work, a resource teacher needs to have special training in alternative methods of instruction, especially reading.
If you like me lack that training, then you could consider going the class/homework support model. Support the children while they try to meet the demands of an unmodified curriculum and, if you can, work with the classroom teachers to employ accomodations for these kids in the classroom.
Good luck.
