Hi. I’m a writer currently working on a book entitled “A Parents Guide to the Internet” (Mars Publishing). I’d be very interested in hearing about any of your experiences your kids have had with the Internet at home or in the classroom that have helped (or hindered) their learning. How has the Internet provided new opportunities for fun and entertainment? Has it helped with children’s self-esteem or independence?
Thanks very much.
Re: Internet Use
Hi,
I teach IT in a UK school for pupils with severe cognitive disablilities. We make considerable use of the Internet both within lessons and to celebrate achievement. You’ll find a fair bit of stuff on our website, as well as relevant links..I’ve endeavoured to provide a highly accessible site, using a lot of Flash other media and MSAgent to provide text to speech (only a small number of our pupils read) and voice commands. The site isn’t going to win any prizes for loading quickly, but I hope its a reasonable model of useful content for our pupils and peers.

Ilene,
Sorry, I don’t have much to tell you….my 16 yr old uses it alot and loves it. …
I would like to ask you if you’ve had any feedback. I’m taking LD courses in IL and need to do a presentation on LD use of the internet. I find so many things on software for LD, but not too many ideas about the internet.
If you have any information and would be willing to share I’d really appreciate it.
Thanks fofr listening. and thanks for writing a book that I know is needed.
