Earobics or Fast Forward

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I would like to know if anyone has had experience with both Fast Forward and Earobics. I have heard that they produce very similar results. Any comments would be appreciated.

Carol,

Check out the posts on the “teaching reading” bulletin board or the “teaching students with ld” both on this site. There are lots of discussion about both of these programs.

We did Fast Forward with our son which greatly improve listening skills. It did not, however, improve his reading skills thus we are now doing PACE with good success.

Carol,

We have done Earobics and are in the process of doing Fast Forward (week 9).

I have no regrets for doing either and I don’t think I would do it any other way. My son is seven (CAPD, dyslexia, ADD) and going into the second grade; it is hard at this point to see what the effects will be.

By doing Earobics first, we established a routine of doing computer work (with earphones) each day. It is much cheaper (around $59 vs. $850+) and our audiologist only recommended twenty minutes a day vs. 100 minutes which we are doing now for Fast Forward.

I believe that Earobics was an important step for Michael before moving on to Fast Forward.

Sincerely,

My son has done both. I bought Earobics first, and it was pure frustration for him. He could not identify the sounds, rhymes, and so on. Fastforword has help him greatly. After six weeks he could rhyme, and hear beginning sounds. He has completely stopped mispronoucing words, and he seems to be understanding more and more of the spoken word. He actually sounded out his first word on his own. Six months ago, he couldn’t tell you the letters of the alphabet, much less the sounds. Then Earobics was easy for him. As he enters first grade, my hope is that he is better prepare to learn to read.

Hi!

I completely concur with your opinion about Earobics and Fast ForWord. Earobics is much less intense in time and money and is a great prelude to Fast ForWord. If Earobics work well for your child then they can also use the more intense program down the line. Children with serious CAPD and/or dyslexia truly benefit from the intensity of Fast ForWord. Fast ForWord is worth the time and money investment!
