Child with LD

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I was just wondering. If I should talk to my doctor about putting my son who has LD on med. I don’t know how benificial that would be. Any Advice on treatments and meds would help. Thank you.

You don’t mention what type of LD you child has?

Well I have only been told he has a LD with a speech problem. I am having the hardest time finding information on it. I can’t seem to get direct answers from anyone. He is the programs. And still with no improvement. I feel if he may be ignored by the system because he doesn’t have any other. Thanks for trying to help.

I am still searching for the right place for me. Maybe if I e mail who ever does this site they could lead me to the correct place for LD Help.

Thank you again

Denise,

I am not sure who did the diagnose. I would go back to who did the testing/diagnoses and ask for a better understand of exactly what his ld(s) is/are. There are many different types of ld’s. Some are treatable with meds some are not. You really need to get a better understanding of what type of ld he has.

I think you have started in the right place. Good Luck

I don’t think you should jump to the meds to help. Not all learning disabilities can be helped by meds.My son has a speech problem and also learning disability.Meds and repeating grades will not help.Finding the best solution to make learning easier is best.
Am there Tracy

Does your child have a pediatrician? Some pediatricians are very familiar with learning differences and might have some good advice for you or at the least be another person interested in your child’s well-being..

It can’t hurt to bring up your child’s problem to his doctor or your family doctor. That’s what they’re supposed to be there for.

Why was your son tested? Who requested the testing? Has he been having trouble in school? Who was it that told you your son has learning differences? Did they do tests on your son to determine that? If you would post the names of the tests he was given and the scores he got on those tests, people could help you interpret the test scores.

Good luck.

Has your son been diagnosed with ADHD or depression or an anxiety disorder? If so, you certainly could raise it with your doctor. If he does not have any of these problems, medication would probably not be appropriate. So far as I know, there aren’t any medications used for treating LD alone.

Is the LD capd? I was going to try adderall, my son would not take it.
Anything to help with the staying on task and attentional deficits.
