I am about to go into another IEP meeting (i.e. battle). Would like suggestions for writing software for reports, research papers for secondary school student who’s writing ability is elementary level. My searches seem to bring up elementary programs with cute dinosaurs, but that’s not much help. I would appreciate any help.
Re: Writing software for secondary school
Inspiration software can be very helpful for the organizational aspects of writing. It has gotten very favorable comments from a number of professionals on these boards. Website is http://www.inspiration.com

What part of his writing ability is at the elementary level? Different programs will work better depending on what’s holding him back.
Have you checked the technology section at this site?
One of the best things we ever did was get Dragon Naturally Speaking software for our son, who had trouble just getting started. We got the home version, which was pretty inexpensive — about $70, and there’s even a teenagers’ version that I saw on sale for $17! It’s not very helpful with regard to the organizational aspects of your child’s written output, but my son was more inclined to re-read and edit his work when he hadn’t already gone through all the trouble of typing it up in the first place. (With this system, you dictate into the computer, and the system types it up for you. You have to re-read the piece to make sure the system got your words down right, and that in itself may aid in the proofreading/editing process).
