So we got back the initial test results just today, and my son will qualify for an IEP under “Other” with no LDs. They say that the ADHD is causing him to get behind in all these other areas, and especially anything written.
My frustration is not with today’s meeting, rather, the one from 2 years ago when the school psychologist DISqualified him based on her classroom observation of him… she thought that he could control himself and was choosing not to. So here we are 2 years later, and 2 years more to catch up on.
I’m soooooo grateful that the current sch. psych. agreed to reexamine his case. Today’s meeting was VERY thorough, and the results of all the tests basically told us what we already knew. But now it’s documented. It was also far too much info for us to sign anything past saying that we attended, and I’m so exhausted.
Thanks for listening. Only people like you will understand, methinks.
Re: IEP frustration
My son has ADD and an LD in writing. Was your son tested for a writing disability? TOWL is usually used or Woodcock Johnson writing samples.
That’s wonderful! Coming from a parent of an ADHD’er w/ learning issues who has a ton of emotional baggage from battling the school - I can relate to the relief you are feeling know. Good luck and stay on top of it!
