Hi everyone. For those of you that followed my previous messages, I just have an update. The clinic that has been following my son since birth has suggested an early intervention childhood program. So, we applied. I will find out more on Monday after they come to see me, but apparantley an occupational therapist or something comes to your home on a regular basis to help your child. The program is for children who are at risk for developmental delays (or who have developmental delays) My son is now 5 months old. I cannot see any developmental delays yet, but he certainly gets frustrated easily and mad. He is also very excitable and “hyper” when wound up - he just shakes (like vibrates). He still startles easily too. He also plays rough. He has difficulty in calming down to sleep. So - we still don’t have diagnosis but they are certainly concerned about him. Will keep you all updated. I have to go back to work in a month, we’ll see how the babysitter fares.

Re: Update on ADHD in baby
Beth, Re: results of interview with Early Child Intervention Program.
The interventionist said that my son is right on target with his physical developmental goals for his age. The only problem (BIG one as far as I am concerned) is his temperament. He is so angry and frustrated. And I cannot understand how a baby can be so mad all the time… and mad about nothing. I think when he gets overstimulated this is how he reacts. The only thing that helps is to walk with him or take him for a stroller ride. This makes him so demanding. Anyways, they are putting him on a waiting list on their program. Fortunately on their team of experts is included a child psychologist. I fear his problems developmentally may show up later, like when he is 2 or 3? I am 95% convinced that he does in fact have ADHD.

Re: Update on ADHD in baby
I am glad to hear the update. As many of us mentioned eariler it sounds like your son may have sensory intergration dysfunction. I don’t know how early they can detect this, but by haveing an occupational therapist (O.T) come work with your son - if he does have sensory intergration dysfunction problems - you should definetly see improvement. If you haven’t got the book “Out of Sync Child” I would still suggest your read it, I find many of the pharses you use in your messages in the book. Hope things go well with the O.T. Keep us posted.
My now 4 year old was put in speech therapy at 2, partly because of a brother with speech delays. I was never completely sure it was necessary. He is a very active child and I thought he was just beating to his own drummer. But it did seem to jump start him and he is now a quick, quite verbal child. He liked the therapy too.
So, even if it is not necessary, it can’t hurt and you will be ahead of the game, if there really are problems.
