Has anyone heard of or used “Semple Math” curriculum and if so how did you like it or why did you dislike it?
Thank you.
Re: Has anyone used this curriculum
Sue thank you for answering my post. So, with this math curriculum are the kids supposed to do one math fact, like addition, for a whole semester? Again, I am very new to homeschooling and would think that the school district would expect more per semester although I could be wrong and I know that each state has different rules, being in New York state, we have the toughest of course, high taxes, high insurance rates, high air fairs and the toughest home school laws!
Anyway, again is that how the curriculum works? Also, there is something about an addendum for older students which I copied and TRIED to read but didn’t understand all of that either.
Thanks.
Carla
Re: Has anyone used this curriculum
C,
Sorry I haven’t answered sooner. Just now saw this post. Yes, you would work strictly with Addition until you finish Level 1. Then Level 2 works on Subtraction. Level 3 works on Multiplication and Level 4 works on Division. It took us one semester to do Level 1. The Addendum for older kids is a diagnostic test to see if you can skip Lessons 1-17 (I think) of Level 1. I live in Texas and we don’t have any homeschool curriculum requirements. Does anyone from New York know what the requirements are?
Hope this helps.
Sue
Hi,
Yes, I used it with my 9 y.o. dd who struggles with math terribly. We worked on learning addition facts for a whole semester and she still couldn’t get it. Then, we started with Semple Math. She was able to get it and actually enjoyed math. We worked all semester on Addition and at the end of the semester she knew most of her facts and could add long columns of numbers. We will start in the Fall with Subtraction. I like their way of explaining place value.
Hope this helps,
Sue
