I have a son he’s a great kid,but I fear he will never read or write again.I took him out of the public system for reasons including the teacher comments he should accomodate for himself as he lives and learns with all these labels.He failed the year,but was passed along anyway.
It’s hard he’s a reluctant learner everyone always would comment on all he can’t do. my poor kid he’s excited now about homeschooling,it’s summer.I know I will experience great joy & frustration in teaching at home and I can see a great learning experience here.The public system names these disabilities gives specific recommendations & doesn’t follow through for lack of funds.I am then faced without any resources but my own & everyone wants my money.
So,Here I go on my own learning all about learning and doing it for someone I love more than anything in the world,because I believe in this guy!!

You’re in the right place :)

See “LD in Depth” for lots of good info; “for teachers” has lots of teaching tips, and the “reading” section is full of good information.

I love it when kids are supposed to “advocate for themselves” and somehow make their own accommodations… because they already have such excellent grasp on their school performance, I suppose.
You go girl! Take it one step at a time and know that even when things get stalled it’s better than the warehouse he’d be parked in.

I just read a wonderful book called “The Gift of Dyslexia” Look it up on amazon.com It really helped me to understand how my child sees the world.

I too am taking a learning disabled daughter home to school this year and need some advice on technology available for teaching one who has the lables: dysgraphia and dyscalcula. There is sooo much in the tech guide here one doesn’t know where to begin. Does anyone have experience with technical teaching support materials that will help a 9-yr old who has had an awesome recovery from a coma/strokes and struggles with these two “dys”s, auditory processing and visual challenges? We bought Brain Builder to start.
