I’m a 57 yr old woman diagnosed about 5 yrs ago with nvl. Are there other adults out there struggling with this? Is there much info about adult nvl? What is the prognosis and what happens as we age? I’m having memory problems and don’t know if this is to be expected due to age or if the disorder actually gets worse over time.

Ball: Do you also have non verbal? If so, what kind of herbs have you tried and have any helped? Joan
Re: nonverbal learning disorder
Hi there-
I too have non verbal learning disorder; it used to be called Visual Spatial Motor Disorder back in the seventies I believe. It affects many areas of my life especially since I am a student, 28 years of age, studying to work with children.
I don’t really know what happens unfortunately as we age, how the aging process affects our learning, does it get worse as we get older. My guess is yes, but I don’t know of any evidence backing this up unfortunately. Personally I get frustrated because it doesn’t seem like much has been done to study health problems of adults with learning disabilities. Sorry, I am sort of geting off topic here.
I try to eat a lot of veggies because I feel more alert when I do; from what I have read broccoli is supposed to help your memory and there are a few vitamins that help, flax seed oil as well as vitamins B and E. I also eat a bit of fish because that makes me feel more alert as well.
I know that this isn’t much but I hope that it helps.
Re: nonverbal learning disorder
I believe that some learning disabilities are caused by some traumas that some people experience. It’s also caused by genetics too, even though a parent may deny it. It’s possible. I have struggles with memory too. I have a learning disability in Math and Reading Comphrension.
Re: nonverbal learning disorder
I was diagnosed with NVL. I really don’t understand about it, I just know that I have LD and how frustrating it is. I try not to get worked up about it, but sometimes it’s difficult not too. Currently. I eat a lot of fruit, take vitamins, and supplements. I believe that with Jesus’ help, I will find out what my mind needs and I will be that much better with memorization and in other learning areas.
God Bless
Re: nonverbal learning disorder
I cannot say for sure or not if it would get worst with age. But I doubt it.
Usually health problems will make it worst. Mental of Physical . So get a check up. If you have other symptoms tell your doctor. I ended up with sever problems, because I was ignored by ignorant doctors. Any changes are important to look into. I was finally tested and tested positive for Lyme disease. It took too many years to find and now I have permenent damage. It was gradual decrease in mental abilities. But many physical in addition. Make sure the doctor runs test.

Who knows is a good question. I hear you. I try to do things that keep my brain sharp.
I dabble with herbs and vitamins and good nutrition.
