How to get Insurance for neuropsych eval

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi there,

This is my first posting here, and I’m not sure what to expect. At any rate I’m an adult with mild ADHD/ADD and LD, Mainly my difficulty is in organizational deficits. I’ve worked for a number of years fairly successfully. In the past 2 years, I have gone for advanced training in my field and have been employed in a positions, which I really want and have the talent for, but my organizational deficits are so problematic that I’ve withdrew from the first place and was asked to leave at the second. I was urged by the training director to get a neuropsych eval to help understand my difficulties and the remedies and possible accomodations for them.

I submited a letter from a psychiatrist —which was well informed and written.
However, my insurance refused the reimbursement.

I’m appealing this. Has any adult here, ever had insurance pay for neuropsych, if so how?

Thanks

Faith

Have any of you

Contact you local City or County Office of Vocational services open a case and they will pay for a full job Related Neuropschological evalation to state job accommdartions. Also start to look in you comunity for someoen whom you like to do the testing and ask them if they are a vendor of you local OVR Office. If you have aname to give to them that will make the process go quicker/ Also bringing letters from other halth profressioanls will quicken the process of you community OVR paying for such and evaluaiton.

Dear Faith,
I have had my insurance pay for two neuropsych testing. I had one done in 1996 and one done in 2001. I have trouble with concentration as well as I had a brain stroke at 23. What I have been told by insurance companies is that a neuropsychartist has to do the testing not a regular psychartist. So far I have not had to pay anything for my testing.

Hi,

I would also let CHADD know that your insurance company denighed you. I nothing else, I think they are keeping statistics on this to use when helping to get legislation passed for the right to have insurance cover this and other treatments for ADHD.
