dysgraphia and writing rate

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Does anyone have any data on the normal ranges for writing speed for all age groups? Such data pertaining to reading rate is easy to find, but i can’t find anything pertaining to writing rate. I’m refering to writng as handwriting -copying - rather than the writing process. Any help with this would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Re the ETCH and writing speeds - I’m unable to get the document to line up properly for you to read it and I can’t seem to send an attachment through the egroup, so if you’d like more information on writing speeds from the ETCH, please email me privately and I’ll send it to you. The Woodcock Johnson-R and Woodcock Johnson III both have a writing fluency test that sort of assesses what you are asking. The student is given a picture and three words as a prompt and they have to write a simple sentence. (The pig is fat) They have 7 minutes to complete as many sentences as they can. Age and grade scores are available. I don’t know about copying though- maybe an OT would have something?Robin

Donna,
I have a third grade daughter, Ann, with an IQ of 147 (we had it tested this summer since she was having trouble finishing her work in 2nd grade). Now with the writing demands of 3rd grade she is either an A or F student depending on the amount of writing envolved. Last week our Pediatrician brought up the possibility of dysgraphia. We will be doing the testing at Riley in Indianapolis, IN. I saw that you have some information about writing standards and was wondering if you could share them with a mother who is on an information search!! Thanks,
