Picture SAT Vocabulary FLashcards

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am having great success with these graphic flashcards. My ADHD students who had trouble learning SAT type words are learning words effortlessly. They just picture the word and they know the meaning. I ordered all three sets from this site:

I would definitely recommend these cards for middle and high school students, especially right-brained learners.

Has anyone any experience using the cards from College Admissions Testing? They look very similar to the ones from Visual Vocabulary

When a post like this appears identically on every board on the site, it looks a lot more like a commercial than a real experience.

Memorizing vocabulary is a questionable technique anyhow (very poor retention and little transfer) and I don’t recommend it in general. Memorizing vocabulary with pictures may aid visualization, or may just be a cute trick that sells more stuff.

I bought the cards several months ago for my son. He never really got motivated to use them. This summer, I’m using them with some students in conjunction with lessons on root words, prefixes and suffixes. That is working great. I choose vocab words that correspond with the root words we are studying. The pictures re-inforce the meanings. The two students I’m using them with like this approach and have gotten very interested in how words are put together. They seem to be mastering words quickly and, I’ve noticed, are getting better all the time at guessing the meanings.
