through studying Psychology now for over a year, i have learnt alot. But there is one concept i do not agree on. And that is Autistic children do not have a theory of mind. Ive known thomas who has suffered with autism since he was 2-3. His father still to this day says he was a very well socially balanced boy before his M.M.R Injection. Wouldnt Thomas have had a theory of mind befors this injection?? Somebody please help me with this mind boggling theory.
Autism
I am a mother of an autistic child and I believe that the autistic child’s theory of mind is determined by his or her speech development at the time they develop autism. Most children whom are lacking a theory of mind are not verbally able to speak or speech is very limited. They do not develop the concept of others being able to understand that without prompting via pulling of hand that the other person will understand what they want. Most children whom lack theory of mind do not point because they do not think that the other party would understand.
