I think Dr. Amen’s research and writing is quite interesting too. One of the best things about his research is that we are getting a significant database of his brain images to use as a diagnostic tool. However, the methods used in his clinics to treat disorders with mega-doses of psychoactive drugs are very controversial. One of my students who was treated at Amen’s clinic ended up becoming toxic on the drugs. At the end of the drug trials no benefits were percieved and the parents were simply out of thousands of dollars for all the tests and consult. Luckily, traditional drug treatment eventually was able to help.
