and academically that hones you in on possible ADD/I (Add/inattentive)IE: behavior, quality of work vs. thier IQ, test taking, complaints from parents with school work and so on….(son is 13 and going into 8th grade, problems, began to become “problems” in 2nd grade)
I’m just wondering as I’m in the process of seeking outside testing. It was suggested by a teacher last year that our son may have this. I’m aware this is a “teachers board” but I’m also asking you because I want a honest answer from professionals that do not have possible circumstances hanging over thier heads. (Yes„I’m kinda aware of how the system works)
Thanks
It’s a good question. Each ADD kid can be like a snowflake - very different from the others. I’d say it falls into two catagories - some are kids who struggle academically, the other are the kids who struggle with their social relationships. Which is NOT to say that all kids who struggle academically or with their social relationships have ADD. Oh, and kids who just drive their parents and teachers out of their minds.
If a child falls into one of those three catagories, ADD is a possible explanation as to why.
If they do, I consider the child’s comportment and manner. Are they highly impulsive and have trouble sitting still, being quiet, waiting for a turn? Or are they extra dreamy and ‘out of it’? ADD kids can be either of those. Do they forget their materials all of the time? Is their notebook, backpack and locker just a mess?
