Interactive Mentronome??

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hope I’ve found the right board to post this question….. Has anyone used this program? If so, is it a process you would recommend? I’d love to read about the experiences of others while our family tries to decide if this is something we’d like to try with our dd.

Thanks!

Jackie

PS - If the IM practice was staffed by a licensed therapist (like OTR or SLP) did you submit the cost to your insurance company?

I am a mother of a son who struggles with reading. I became an IM provider so that I could provide IM to him. (I am and OTR)

Before IM I would tell my son to “concentrate”, “focus” and I don’t think he really knew what I meant. Now when I say those words he knows. IM is a very good tool to teach focus and attention skills.

My son also was able to perform math timed tests and beat the clock for the first time 5 years. He has also better rhythm and is now able to keep time with music. The best thing that my son noticed is his improved skills when playing baseball. He felt that he could catch and hit the ball better. My husband and I thought so too.

IM has done research showing that this program improves focusing and attention skills. It has not proven that it helps with anything else but in my experience it does. I love the program!

IM is a 15, one hour a day program. That is the minimum time. I find that 90% of the kids I work with benefit from additional days. I do not know about billing insurance. I am sure every insurance is different.

If you want to see past post on IM, use the “search” at the top of the pages on each board.

Hi Donna,

Thanks so much for sharing your family’s story! Sounds like IM work has been a real positive for your son!

PS - Do the 15 days need to be consecutive, like AIT, or can they be spread out over a longer period of time?

I have found that doing the first half of IM 5 days a week is best for the person to learn the different tasks. After that, I do either 3 days a week or continue at 5 days a week. It really depends on the child/adult that you are working with. I try not to have more than a 4 day break between session. That’s just how I do it. Other providers may do it different.
