I haven’t used it myself, but it looks good and other people speak highly of it: Go online and look for the DIBELS test, which is designed exactly for preschool and K and covers phonlogical issues.

Where in VT are you? I am in Montreal, north of you.

Yes, DIBELS would be my first recommendation, also.

I have looked at the DIBELS but it would take longer than we want to spend to assess all the kindergarteners (about 100).

Jane, at the beginning of the year, the kindergarteners are only given letter naming and initial sounds subtests in DIBELS. I honestly don’t see how anything could be any quicker or easier than this.
