I have been trying to get help for myself and my two gifted LD kids for several years. I have written letters and called people. My daughter and I have severe ADD type problems and think we also have Dyslexia and possibly other LDs. My son had S.A.D. and Aspergers syndrome. His IQ was over 160 so no one ever understood when I tried to tell them he had problems and everything was hard for him. He was my best friend. i have memory problems and have not been able to work- ever. I am divorced and have no family and no friends. My son had a heart condition and needed an operation at some point before he turned 21. I forgot to bring him to his last appointment, and had been very depressed and asking everyone around me to help me with my problems, getting to a doctor, etc, so I could stop forgetting everything and maybe even go back to school and get a job. My son was a student at B.U. and took a leave of absence this past spring because he had gotten depressed. I helped cheer him up when he got back home. We were best friends, and he always made me think everything was ok, even when it wasn’t. No one ever listened to me or took me seriously, no one helped us. 3 months ago he died suddenly because of his heart. He was 19 and was the most wonderful person in the world. Now it is just me and my daughter. We both need help. No one is helping us. No one understands. She is a senior in High school and needs to be diagnosed with LD before going to college. Her problems make her very, very depressed but she keeps trying. I can not do it alone and am so sad and so tired all the time. Can anyone PLEASE help us??? I have no family. I quit school and ran away at age 15. I am very intelligent, but very, very LD and ADD. I want to die but am staying alive because I am the only person who understands her, I just feel like I can’t help her to live a better life.

Coping.....
Hi.
There are a couple of things you need to do –
1) You need a psychotherapist who can give you feedback on your
efforts to improve your situation. A psychotherapist can give you
guidance and advice.
2) You need to go to your states Vocational Rehabilitation agency, in
your county. It is listed under the state Department of Labor or the
State Department of Education.
3) You need to check if there is a Job Training agency sponsored by your
local city, county or state government. In New Jersey, the counties have
offices that can help, in addition to Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
Good luck.
Re: I needed help, no one listened, my son died
“You need to go to your states Vocational Rehabilitation agency”
That’s always an option, but we’d refer her to a mental health agency for evalutation and possible treatment before initiating job training and/or placement services.

I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your son and your problems.
You need to call the local mental heatlh agency and make an appointment. I know it can be difficult to get transportation, but it sounds as if you are ready to make the effort. If you don’t know how to reach them I’d be glad to look up the number. They’re usually listed by city or county, but some areas are organized differently.
