budget help

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Help! This is my first year teaching 8th grade learning support. I am a resource room teacher. I have a class of 18 for language arts, 10 for math and I co-teach social studies and science. I have $310 to spend for next years budget. Does anyone know of any good websites to buy from? Any good ideas on what to purchase?
My students have reading disbilities. We use the Wilson and Read Naturally programs in my class. Just to give you an idea about the students population. Thanks.

You might want to look at Rewards from Sopris West. It works best with students who read on a beginning 4th grade level or better, but also helps even those on a 2nd grade level. In my experience, it gives a tremendous boost to word attack skills and fluency. (I do only one-on-one tutoring, but the program is written for classroom use. The video is helpful for seeing how to pace the program in the classroom.)

If you like it, then you might want to purchase the follow-on program, Rewards Plus. The advantage of this program is that it focuses on social studies topics. I personally don’t care for the layout of this program as much as Rewards, but it would probably work very well in your setting.

Website to check these out is http://www.rewardsreading.com
