Does anyone know about this reading program and if it is successful?

I have used it and know of teachers who have used it. I like it, it is pretty straightforward and easy to follow. The writing program is decent too.

I use Project Read. It was recommended to me by my Orton-gillingham practicum master teacher. I no longer need to rely on the manual for instructing because I know it so well now, but I still use the same sequence for delivery of the concepts.

As mentoned above, it is easy to use and very informative for novices. I have a private tutoring practice, and one parent (who is a teacher) was so impressed with the progress her child was making that she bought the materials herself, and convinced the principal of the school where she works to let her become the “reading resource” teacher. She sits in on all of her child’s sessions.

You don’t need the whole kit, but you should get the demonstration tape. It is important to use the multisensory activities that the program
mentions. This keeps it from being just another phonics lesson. you will definitely need the “Phonology Guide/Lesson Plans” manual, and the Red Words, and the “Bonnie Kline Stories” are very good for reinforcement and practice of the newly learned concept in connected text. In addition, I use additional wordlists from “Angling For Words” (Educators Publishing Service) for additional review work. Going through a lesson once is not enough.
