Dyscalculia in Sweden - where can I go to be tested?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I live in Sweden. I was 39 when I heard about Dyscalculia, and realized that was me - I want to amend my Higschool education and actually ‘finish’ school with a passable grade in Maths…where do I go to be tested? So I can apply for the help available.

regards,
Shadow Bear

Ask Bjorn Adler… http://www.dyskalkyli.nu/index-filer/Page319.htm

If he can’t come to whereever in Sweden you live/you can’t come to him, I’m sure that he knows someone else who can. :)

ellyodd I am sorry, I meant that in the nicest possible way. Like, at the rate you are going with your web site and everything you might one day work for a fellow like that, or even become as well known as that fellow. I am sorry if you took that the worng way.

Sorry:)

Well, they came out of nowhere, I believe I got it from my dad, he had the same problem when he was my age, was hospitalized for a year because he couldn’t walk, from slipped discs. The doctors say that it’s impossible to get that from your parents, but I don’t believe them, because if you can’t get inherit their spinal column (or whatever it’s called in English), how the heck can you inherit stuff like the size of your ears etc.

I got it 3 years ago, haven’t been able to do much for 2½ years. I have been to a thousand doctors, the regular and the alternative ones, I’ve done water gym, corsages, you name it. Last summer I stopped looking for help, and tried my own thing. I do exercises at home, the exercises that i can feel helps me - not the ones I were told to do for years. And 3 months after I started, I felt better, and it IS going somewhere, I feel better and better, slowly. I plan to study pedagogy starting September, even if I’m not 100% well - I have to try, I’m wasting my life right now.

You are not wasting your life if you are making web sites and helping to educate people about dyscalulia!!! That is not a waste of life!! I do agree with you that you can inherit back problems. Totally with you there! My late motehr and I had the same back, the same posture and everything. But, unlike myself, she could type!

I hope you do well when you go back to school. Never too late. Remember what Victoria the cool Canadian said, keeping your back in check is important for your future! And darnit, all of us with dyscalculia are depending on you!

Hopefully the original poster heeded your advice. I am learning that in Norway and Sweden a lot of very modernised health care is to be had. Good luck.

I’m not really doing that much, I’m just searching for information and share what I learn.

I’m 22. It’s normal in Denmark to start education in any age. 17-30 years is the most normal age though. It’s free to go to school here, we even get paid, so people feel a little freer to start when they want to, I think. But to get into the higher pedagogy study, I have to use 1 year and 8 months at a pedagogy-helper school, because I can’t finish high school math, and then I can apply for the real thing (the government here is trying to change that rule, I hope I make it before, or else I don’t have the change to get any education…). And at the pedagogy-helper school, most people are 16-20, so Ill be OLD… I just have to live with that.

I know nothing about the health care in Norway and Sweden. But they have dyscalculia researchers, who knows a lot more than the Danish ones.

I think Shadow Bear saw it, have talked with him on other forums. Sorry about the topic change, Shadow bear ;)
