I’ve been thinking about going into the teaching field and I just wondered if there are any male paraeducators/teachers assistants. I’m sure there are very few.
I think if I had the oppurtunity to assist for a few years, I could find out if I handle a job in teaching.

I would just like to support your idea!
Whilst you’ll be paid less, you also wont have to spend your nights and weekends preparing lesson plans and marking homework.
In regard to respect, I’m sure that the Teachers that you will provide support for, will highly value your assistance.
Also if you choose later to become a Teacher, you’ll have the advantage of being familiar with how deal with ‘disadvantaged’ students in your classroom.

Most of my aides worked harder than some of the teachers — you do want to shop for a good situation. (We had a bit of a delicate situation when the department head started turning over work on IEPs to the aide — who had no background but, alas, probably could have done a better job :-( )
There are a few male teacher aides. It’s not a field that men often go into. The pay is most often terrible and you get little respect. There is also a vicious circle, that since men don’t often go into the field, you may get treated as an oddity, and this scares even more men off. However, a lot of schools are looking for male role models and want male teachers, so if you can get started you should be able to find a place to work.
