LD Online have disabled the smileys :(
Re: Effects
I think the personality thing may not always be related to the neurological part of LD but rather is is something caused by low self esteem and feelings of inadequacy.
BGB makes a good point about employment anxiety.
I avoided most of the personality things because I was a jock. I did not really want to be one but athletics was something I was good at. I was a decent wrestler and we always got respect. Most people were afraid to give us a hard time.
Re: Effects
So why is it in most of us that we deal with so much of these everyday issues including the work or employment, which I have much trouble in my self.
Reason why I ask is because I’m trying to get to the bottom of my issues and self esteem, and the more I dig the more I find that there connected.
Cause the effects we have don’t really have anything to do with our LD directly but the consequences on having them. Such as being judged and criticized from other classmates as being different, and not having the learning capability to understand. So our self esteem comes from the fear or being judged and criticized by others for me a clear reflection of my past. Personally I went to 5 different schools from the 3rd grade to 8th. So almost like being withdrawn from society in self, always abandoned at the next school.
From OCD which is a mental disorder and not a disease which most doctors prescribe it as. is really a build up of suppressed issues and effects in your sub conscious, that have gone on in your life that haven’t been addressed. Causing compulsive behavior.
Overall, I feel I see that most of our effects tie in with each, and to me it’s a discovery it its own

First of IMHO more people are diagnosed with OCD than actualy have it. As LDers we have to be more vigilant and as a result we may exhibit some of the screwy DSM criteria for OCD. If you have the OCD dx and are LD chances are you are not even remotely OCD.
Actually I think it is pretty simple. As LDers we have more defeats than victories. People treat us like losers. This starts at a very early age. Success spells success and failure spells failure. We get treated poorly and we fail too often. Consequently we feel bad most of the time. It’s a nasty cycle.
Re: Effects
I totally agree with you that doctors can diagnose you with a symptom such as OCD or for kids adhd becuase there to active. or depression pills that end up turning to suicide. it a shame that america is so depened on a magic pill to cure what one might think is major problem when in real its issue that needs time to be resolved.
out of a personal experice my mother grew up with ld, not known then and probally ADD and got picked on by her classmates and bro’s and sisters. causing her to be very insecure. and OCD if it’s even that? know on meds for years and has come so dependent on them that most of whats causeing her this problem is so surpressed by the drugs. it gets me so madddddddd. that she sees her doctor and all they ask her is are you taking your meds thats it no deep down compassion for wanting to find were the problem exist. urhhh i feel like i have lost my mother due to this.
Re: Effects
We are a pill popping society. Certainly there are some who can be helped by pills but I believe way too many people are over medicated and over diagnosed.
That’s a decent list.
I’d add self esteem issues.
Also in my case, I’m afraid to look for new employment so even though my situation may not be the best, I’ll never leave (volunterraly  ). But I think that’s unusual.
