hi my name is mel and I’ve stumbled across your website by accident and I can’t quite believe it.. I’m stunned. I’ve been so lonely in my little world of ADHD kids I had no idea that you were out there!
I have three kids. my eldest son has ADHD, ODD and Dyslexia and my youngest son has ADHD, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia and autistic traits which our Psychiatrist has labelled as D.A.M.P.
I am fighting tooth and claw for my second son to get an educational statement (he’s nearly 7) and am having no joy, do you have any advice for me?
Many thanks
Mel :D

No advice right now except to say welcome to the forum! It’s been a great place for me to get support and ideas from others going through similiar situations as we are!

What seems to be the road block? There was a boy in my son’s fourth grade class who was diagnosed with DAMP. He was on an IEP. I know, from talking to his mother, that he got reading help early on but by fourth grade he was a good reader. Math continued to cause problems.

You can get a 504 plan with the ADHD diagnosis. Is the problem that the school is not recognzing DAMP (which seems to be a more common diagnosis in Europe) and thus won’t give him an IEP or that they are not giving him appropropriate services?

The first is easier to solve than the second.

Welcome, and you are definitely not alone. You might also want to check out www.schwablearning.org. Many parents there have alot of experience in dealing with educational systems.
