I’m wondering if anyone has any experience using The Listening Program?

TLP
My daughter has benefited tremendously from auditory tonal training programs. (She has CAPD) We have done TLP a number of times (including myself and my son). However, we saw more benefit from Tomatis.
For my dd (and every kid is different), but we found the downside is that the ‘listening’ type programs don’t stick with her. We originally used TLP as a booster inbetween her Tomatis sessions.
We had not done any listening for about 3yrs when I had her tested again this winter. Yes, she had slipped quite a bit (which explained some of the ‘de ja vu’ we were seeing). We did another session of Tomatis and rather than doing TLP, my provider offered a new booster program that was very affordable and easy to do.
Her spelling in writing still stinks, but right off the bat I believe her ability to ‘visually image’ symbols improved and it was much easier this last semester remembering her spelling words. (she use to not be able to visually image letters at all, she then went to imaging them in 3D block letters to now she sees them as normal letters.)
The biggest change that I’m just so encouraged by is her memory on names. She is just HORRIBLE at remembering names, which really effects her vocabulary (and test taking for science and history!) This past semester studying for science and history was almost like a normal kid!!! And she is remembering people’s names like she has never before.
She now asks me to sign her up for more listening sessions and tells me when it’s time to do some more. She is noticing the difference in herself.
Re: The Listening Program
We did TLP through our Neuronet provider who told me recently that she doesn’t like to use high frequency sound programs like TLP because the results don’t “stick”. Her preference is for low frequency sound therapies, which we have done also.
In my experience, the advantage of TLP is that the child is more teachable at least for some period of time. I felt like we were able to get to the place that more permanent gains could be made because of doing TLP.

TLP
Interesting. TLP and Tomatis does do high freqency so that could be the case. They started doing this booster program because of those kids like mine where it doesn’t stick. I can’t remember the exact words they told me, but something to the exent that they would expect over time that her ‘system’ will be stronger and it will start sticking with her.
I hope they are correct. In the meantime, I’ve already paid my fee to come in as much as we like for a year. It’s the only therapy we have done where I have seen any improvement in her ‘dysnomia’. After doing PACE and all the other cognitive programs - this one is a piece of cake. Only thing hard is the 30min. drive.
Re: The Listening Program
We got movement on word finding with Neuronet which is much more motor based. Have to wonder if the two programs work on the same part of the brain differently or if there are different causes for the same presenting conditions.
I remember now though that my DS hit a wall on these procedures and we did Interactive Metronome which for some reasons made a big difference in his ability master these procedures. TLP did not seemingly make a difference here (we did it before IM). The brain is certainly a funny thing.
I have been doing low frequency sound therapy and the most striking difference I see is that I can actually get phone numbers off answering machines the first time! I never was great at this but in the past few years I have had to replay over and over again. It was really dysfunctional.

Low frequency program
What program are you using for the low frequency sounds? (or is it a program).
I have to admit that I didn’t feel TLP helped me any. I felt I was sleeping better mid-way thru program, but by the time I finished, I felt my ears rang.
I never noticed any ‘changes’ in my dd either with TLP -except I did see her jump to next levels on cognitive programs when she had plateaued on a level. TLP is very mild and ‘generic’. I see immediate changes and benefits when we do the Tomatis and even the boosters (which are only 45min sessions).
There is a book called “When Listening Comes Alive”. It had a section on high frequency sound vs. low frequency and why Tomatis does high. I don’t recall what it said now - I don’t have copy of the book. I’m interested now in what it said about it. I know when we initially did Tomatis 5 yrs ago, my dd when thru very strange reaction when the Dr. had her on very high frequencies. This happens when the sound is hitting undeveloped parts of brain or parts of brain that were asleep.
Re: The Listening Program
My son did some strange things during his course of IM. I also felt like it was tickling parts of his brain , but we didn’t see any immediate gains in the areas we had hoped for. But whose to say it didn’t clear the way for some of the progress we saw later?
I’d also be interested in knowing what low frequency programs exist. I’m still researching all of this. I’d like to do it…. just been lazy with my son. He’s in a really good stable phase so I probably should do it now, but I hate to disrupt things!
Re: The Listening Program
The low frequency program we’ve used is German. It only requires five minutes in the morning and five at night, which is really nice. We got it through our Neuronet provider. One of the tapes says copyright 1995 by Georg Nothdorf on it.

We used it. Our experience was that it improved fine motor skills and made other sorts of learning easier. My son had extreme difficulty with auditory processing tasks before doing it and afterwards was much more teachable.
