New CAPD diagnosis

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hello from a mum new to learning disabilities. My daughter has been recently diagnosed with CAPD and ADD. For the more experienced parents, I am looking for information on any specialist schools in this area - I am able to mobile and will move to any location if it means that my daughter can recieve an accessible education. I am also interested in which Lindamood-Bell products parents have had success with. Also, where do I find out information on any funding my daughter can receive to assist with her intense speech pathology requirements. Any information would be gratefully received. Many thanks. Lee-Ann

how old is your kiddo? It sounds like you are from the UK from your verbiage. I am an SLP who has CAPD/ADD and has been trained in LMB programs.

I can tell you from experience if you treat the ADD the CAPD will not be as difficult to remediate. Tell me more about your kiddo and I can help you.

Hi Pattim,

Thank you for your posting! My daughter is 10 and in the 5th grade. As a newbie, I am not yet familiar with the acronyms you have used. What is an SLP? Sorry! Still trying to figure this out! My daughter struggles with listening, following directions, math and spelling. What other information can I provide to assist? many thanks for your help.

That is what SLP means…Speech and Language Pathologist. Are you from the United Kingdom? I am in the United States. When my daughter was in 5th grade is when I decided to become a speech path because of her difficulties in learning. She has an auditory processing problem but underlying it all was ADD and once we started to medically treat the ADD she started making up for lost time. I used LIPS and visualizaing and verbalizing techniques to teach her to read. We also used read naturally to help with the auditory processing and vocabulary developement. I used programs from Educational Publishing like That’s Elementary to help her with the langauge of math and I also used On Cloud Nine math. What helped my daughter to learn her times tables was Times Tables the Fun Way.

Feel free to e-mail me through this website and you can give me more particulars unique to your daughter.
