summer math tutor; calif. central coast

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

i posted this on some other boards and am trying here as well. i also posted here about trying to find an evaluator for a math IEE……

this is different; i am looking for a math tutor- someone that knows dyslexia and can work with a 13 year old who is totally giving up on math.

hoping this is not a total long shot - am just trying all avenues….

my 3rd grader will be attending 6-7 week lmbell intensive in san luis obispo, CA from mid june through july (4 hours per day/5 days per week).

my older child, 7th grade, has attended the lmbell clinic for various summers since he was in 2nd grade. the results for him in reading have been great! i originally thought my older child could attend 2 hours per day and basically work on reading “maintenance.” he wants to have nothing to do with this. while he reads slowly, his reading is fine. he feels his reading is great and that he does not need to spend the time at lmbell this summer. he is a very perceptive kid and i agree with his thoughts.

what would really benefit him is to work a few hours per day - or even one hour per day in math. he is quite far behind grade level and has given up on math. he feels like a failure in the area of math and his resource room math for 7th grade has been less than productive.

ANYONE out there know ANYBODY on the central coast who would work as a private math tutor for 6-7 weeks this summer???????

we will be staying in morro bay but can accomodate just about any location that is near san luis obispo.

i would like to make this a productive math summer for him.

thanks :D

Have you tried iser.com?

I will think about this and think if there is any route for me to search for help for you.

Unless I can get that matter transporter and go to California …

thank you victoria!!!!

i will try iser.com

do you know of another place (website or whatever) that lists tutors? i am trying the local colleges and of the lmbell clinic may have some outside options though i know they do not really share them.

we really want to make this summer productive. my son (almost 14) does have a “job” lined up helping out in a surf shop, which is a huge positive.

since he is severely dyslexic, i am hoping to find a mentor type tutor - someone who can do some repairing of self esteem in the math area. he needs that right now more than a totally skilled math person….does that make sense.

please pass on anything else you think of! it is greatly appreciated.
