Q: Fast Forword Scores & moving to the next program

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

We’ve been doing FFW Language for 8 days now and I’m wondering if we’ll need to move to the next program. I’m assuming the tokens are scores and, if so, what amount would indiate that the child is ready to move to the next program?

One more question, is it unusual for a child to have relatively high scores on most of the games, but struggle with one (my son has a difficult time with Block Commander, yet the rest are relatively easy for him)?

Thanks for any help! :-)

Hi, Laura. You need to have your provider access the percentages. Are games above 80%? That is a BIG question. Just the tokens or daily scores won’t tell you what level you are in the game. and Yes, sometimes a particular game seems harder. With Block Commander, encourage him to repeat what they say aloud and move the mouse to the first step as he listens for the second direction. Again, those percents will tell you whether he is ready to move on. If you want post the %s for me to see and I’ll give you some feedback.

Well….my provider stopped by today and tried to get on Progress Tracker but she couldn’t log onto the site. It kept showing an error code??? She did get on last week. Maybe there was a problem with the site today?

She’s going to try and get through tomorrow or call. My son will have to take a break because we’re close to day 10 and frustratingly I’m not sure which program we need.

Thanks again Angela for your help! Hopefully I can get the scores.

Thank goodness!!!! I originally thought it was something I did by not updating regularly enough.

Here’s the percentiles:

Block Commander 96; Circus Sequence 89; Phonics Match 93;
Phoneme ID 69; Lang Comp Builder 55; Old Mc D 51; Phonics Word 45

Of course, those later ones he’s only done a few times (Phonics Word twice, Old Mc D 3x & Lang Comp 5x).

So if you had these scores with a student, what would you do? Continue or move up?

Thanks :-)

The truth is that I rarely change programs, but then my students are on a perpetual site license so cost and time are not issues. A child with high scores would finish the minimum 20 days and then I would move them up. Your son has 3 games well above the 80% and the others are lower mostly because he has not played them much. Circus Sequence is an important indicator and he has a very high score already. I guess, I would move him up to Language to Reading. He will have a more intensive sequence game in Trog Walkers (up to 5 sounds) and he will have more practice with the matching and id. Start up Stories will combine the language and directions. You or your provider can call Scientific Learning professional support and discuss scores and whether to move up at this point. I would rely on their judgement to determine whether to stay in FFW 1 or move up to 2.
