Parent or teacher of a CAPD child in Florida??

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My 16 y/o daughter has CAPD. Diagnosed at age 6. In 8th grade she was removed from ESE because she passed all speech and language testing. They also tested her again for CAPD and it was confirmed. Was told that the State of Florida does not recognize CAPD as a learning disability. I have been fighting for acommodation since the beginning of 9th grade. She is starting 11th grade in August. She failed both 10th grade FCAT’s. Has a 2.2 GPA.
Do you have a child or student that is CAPD (only) and is in ESE??

We live in FL. This is true. My child though was classified as having a specific language disability because he was delayed in reading. Basically, you have to have some other basis for classification—the underlying cause may be CAPD but being diagnosed with CAPD alone does not get you anything.
