Hi, I am looking for informal assessments for reading and math to give my k-5 students when the year begins. I have test and IEP’s from the last teacher, but I would feel better to do some assessing on my own in addition to her info. If anyone knows of really good, well rounded assessments for reading skills and math skills please let me know.
I also will have 1 students who, according to her IEP, seems to be able to compute math fairly well but has little understanding of the “why” of math. I am looking for a book of stratiges to help her see the meaning behind her computations. All suggestions welcome.
Thank You,
Kathye
The Brigance tests may do the trick for you. Your school or school borad probably own them already. There are 3 different tests, a yellow, a red and a green. The yellow tests birth to age 7 skills, the green for students in elementary and intermediate school, and the red is an inventory of essential life skills for older GLD students and the like. You would probably want to use the green binder. It will identify skills that have and have not been mastered in many areas and grade levels to help you plan instruction. It is a criterion referenced test, which means that it will tell you if your students have mastered specific skills or not. Good Luck!
