emotional rollercoaster to team work success

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I wanted to share my peace for a change. For anyone that doesnt know my sons story last year- it was horrable- a nightmare. A teacher that would not follow his IEP and was emotional cruel and crushed my sons self-esteem.

This year he has the best teacher we could ask for. Understanding, caring and supportive.

Last year all I heard was “He needs somewhere else to go?
This year just yesterday his teacher said “I wish he could spend more time in the classroom. The other student do not like to see him go and ask why he has to leave.”

My son spends half the time in resource than he did last year. seriously half. Last year was 2 hrs and 45 min with additional content mastery time. This year is 1hr and 30 mins and no content mastery time(so far).

I just got his progress report card. Lang 97 written lang 90 math 95

He is so proud of himself. What a difference teachers can make!

This time last year he was running out of the classroom crying. I will never wait for a teacher to understand my son’s learning style again. If they do not get it in the beginning he is getting a new teacher. There is too much at stake. Last year I was worried about offending her or making her look bad if I pulled my son from her class not knowing just how cruel she was going to be to my son. Well old painful memories coming back. Happy thoughts. It is a new year and it is a good one.

I am glad to have my son back again. Silly happy and enjoying his class.
