Opinions needed on testing my district wants to do....

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

We had our LD DS privately tested a year ago . The tests included the WISC, Ravens progresive matrices, Bender, Rosner test of auditory analysis, WRAT, Gray oral reading, Gates, macginite reading, WJ III, Peabdy picture and deroit tests of learning (certain subtests. ) his LD school also annually tests the children with their own tests that measure decoding , comprehension, writing etc. They also administer the Stanford 9 achievement test in reading and math.

We already knew he is dyslexic and inattentive.

Our district has declined to classify him as LD, instead giving him an other health impaired. Its all moot as he doesn’t attend public school right now, but may in the future.

The district wants permission to administer the TOWL, WJIII and WIAT. I think its redundant after all our testing last year (and I have provided them the results ) but wanted to see what you guys thought. I’m not going to subject him to more testing unless it has value ….

thanks!

He’s getting no services and no, they are n’t paying for a thing! ( I wish!! We haven’t even attempted to get that ) If we were to mainstream him right now the only thing that is in his IEP are accomodations (extended time et al. ) They don’t think he needs further remediation and we obviously do! The cover letter said its part of their annual CSE process. They also asked for permission to observe him at his current school and obtain their testing, which I have consented to.

I would make sure they are aware of the testing that is already there. I’m thinking that they’re going through motions without checking the details (as opposed to, say, hoping you’ll say “no” so they can document that you seem to be not cooperating).
