MY MRI SCAN

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I had an MRI brain scan a week ago because I thought I might have had something bad happen recently, and while my neurologist doesn’t think I had any recent damage, he does say I have white matter destruction, particularly in the occipital region. He thinks it’s either from my prematurity (33 weeks gestation) or from not breathing at birth since I was born in deep asphyxy. I think that explains my slow, laborious thinking, visual-spatial and reading comprehension troubles.

Good to know there’s nothing happening *now* :-)

I suffer from a visual-spatial deficit as well. Were there any possible treatment options that he shared with you?

He is a medical doctor so he isn’t into cognitive stuff primarily. I’ve spoken to him for no more than thirty seconds and I actually did not ask about the cognitive correlates. These are just my surmises. I wish I’ve actually asked him questions, but I get shy of doctors so I always minimize my concerns and never get all my questions answered.
