Fast foward expenses

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am thinking about putting my son through fast foward. I know that I need to pay a Fee (I think $800) to the company but how much does it cost to do the the program with someone. I know it will be different everywhere. I just want to know if its feasible for us or if I should look into something else. Thanks

You can train yourself to be the provider. It’s not very difficult. If you log onto the website (http://www.scilearn.com) as an educator, CrossTrain is one of the products listed for purchase. CT is a CD-ROM tutorial. Once you think you know the material, you can take the online test and become a certified provider. This allows you to purchase FFW and administer it yourself at home. CrossTrain costs about $100.

Provider costs vary. Here in MN, if the child trains at home, the provider typically charges about $750 to administer the program, in addition to the $850 licensing fee for FFW. When the child trains in the provider’s office, total costs usually run closer to $3,000 or more total.

If you can wait until October or so, the company usually offers FFW discounted towards the end of the calendar year. One year they discounted it to $650 during the month of November. Last year they discounted it to $650 the first two weeks of October, $750 through November, and $800 in December. If you get certified first, you can take advantage of this sale if they offer it again this year.

It is expensive, but I chose to let a qualify speech therapist adminster the FFWD. I don’t know about you, but it is very hard to teach or work with my own child. By the way, my son’s progress after FFWD was great. He now knows letters and sounds, rhyming words, sounding out simple words, etc. He couldn’t do it before. He stopped mispronoucing words, and seems to understand more language. I do plan to do the other programs for him at home, but I thought the first program needed someone who understood about children, and could motivate and keep him on task with the program.
