I have taught in a self-contained classroom and had students with mental retardation in my classroom. This coming year I am going to be an LD resource teacher I am completely lost in how to start the year off. How do you do scheduling, especially making sure that every child gets all their minutes? I am going to be doing a combonation of pull-out and in class resource. From what it sounds like mostly I will be in the classroom. I am lost!Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: new resource teacher
Here’s what you can do to help schedule. \
First give each teacher a paper with what time they teach math, reading, recess, lunch, etc. Don’t just say turn in your schedule. I have found teachers read hand written photocopied notes better than typed. You might give candy bars to the first grade level teachers who all get their schedules in.
Take three 81/2 by 11 papers or graph paper and tape them together to give you a long paper with lots of room going across writing the times of the day across such as 8:00-8:15, next little box 8:15 to 8:30 ,8:30 to 8:45 etc until the end of the day. Write all your students name going down. Put 4th graders together, 5th , etc. Next, highlight the times they are all at recess and lunch. Then take each subject and the time they are in math in the regular classroom and highlight one kid all the way across. Do all you kids in colored pencil the same color. Blue for math , written language red etc. Now you have an excellent visual of all your students. NEXT take those skinny little post it notes and put their group of lets say spelling on the post it note, like Spelling group B on the post it and place it on the students line. Does this make sense? Then you see your whole day. Scheduling is one of the most difficult tasks. Remember you can not please everybody. If you get a teacher who has trouble take your master color coded list and show them and then they will see what you go through.. Good luck.
Hi Jessica. I’ve taught RR at the elementary level for eight years ~ don’t worry, you’ll be fine! What grades are you teaching? That will make a big difference in how you go about setting up your day. Let me know if you’re at the elementary level and I can give you lots of advice!
