help with non verbal child

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I have ana utistic non-verbal child placed in my room this year. He is very bright, but has made no gains in verbal communication skills in his first three years of school. I have no idea how to proceed with reading instruction with him. He shows strong indications that he can sight read some words. What is the best method to get him started with a reading program?

at your school. He should be on her caseload. Is this child using a communication board? There are many things that can be done with a child who is non-verbal using a PECS communication system.
