Reading Milestones

Has anyone out here used the program Reading Milestones? Our special ed department is thinking of making the investment and I would like some information about it’s success, etc.

I recently received a new student who used Reading Milestones at his old school. I obtained a copy of the red Level and I am planning to start using it tomorrow. He is in the third book of the red level. I’d be happy to share information once I find out more.

Reading Milestones is a program that was originally written to be used with hearing impaired children. It teaches kids to read using groups of phrases and it also teaches basic reading comprehension skills. I am using it with my MR student. The stories are colorful, fun, and teach her basic vocabulary skills. It also has helped her comprehension. I have used both Levels 2 and 3. I believe it goes up to Levels 5 & 6. I haven’t seen those. It seems to be best suited for very low functioning students. I wouldn’t recommend using it with LD students. It doesn’t teach any decoding, and it really only requires basic comprehension such as matching a picture to a sentence, etc.
