I live in Houston. I recently contacted the university here for testing.
Sure enough they had a department specializing in this and I have set up testing for myself.

I was also diagnosed with apd by a regular psychologist.
though apd is a general term, each individual experiences it
differently. Y problem is that I have difficulty with oral language.

I am unable to sit in class and follow the teacher lecture.
They always speek too fast for me to follow. i also unable
to retain verbal information. How you experience yours?
How did you realize that you have apd?

who cope with same problem and how they managed at school and work.

is in the area of listening skiils. I have difficulty following a conversation.
I miss main idea of things. i also have difficulty in retaining verbal information.

I’ve never heard of Auditory Process Disorder and I wonder if I fall in that category. I seem to have a hard time comprehending information when I’m spoken to. I’d appreciate more info.

sharon,

See my answer which was posted in Bultainboard for adults LD, in response
to a message posted on 5.8.02 titled Auditory process disorder. In short, I advised the writer to read the article published on April 02 on LD report. There is a new book about auditory processing named: ” when the brain can’t hear”. from which the article was taken. There is also a web site www.napd.org. Auditory processing disorder means that the brain does not process appropriately information that comes through the ears. It affects many skills such as reading comprehension, spelling, writing, listening skills etc. Like learning disability, every one experiences it differently, What are your symptoms? I plan to get more involved in the organization for apd
and maybe start a support group in my area. Hope I helped you.

Omer

p.s. what the name “everydaymiracle” signifies?

Have you tried to use a tape recorder?!
While I was in college, I was allowed to use a tape recorder for lectures. after the lecture, go back over your notes and fill in the missing sections. This is a trememdous help and can boost you grade and note taking abilities greatly.
Before using a tape recorder, check with the professor and the school policy. I was registered with the office of disabilities on campus and presented a letter at the begining of the semester.
