It depends. In the United States, there is a difference. The definition of a learning disability (LD) in the states precludes individuals with an intellectual disability within its very definition by requiring persons with LDs to have average to above average intelligence. Outside of the United States, LDs and the definition of LDs are often more broadly defined.
Regardless of the category of disability, each person deserves to be met at their need and to be provided interventions, remediation, and / or accommodations to allow them demonstrate their proficiency, strengths, and talents.
