Getting tested for Adult LD

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi there,

When I was much younger (6th grade) I was placed into a special eduction class, which the school called Academic Support Center, aka Title 1 by the Federal Government.

Now I am about 30 years much older and I have been experiencing many problems like I did back then. I went and contacted a place called TRC (Texas Rehab Commission) and they performed many tests on my wife at no charge to her. Well, they say I can’t be tested because I am working now for a living, even though it is a job that is well below my potential as said to me by many people. How does an adult get diagnosed for a LD and what really can be done about it? It isn’t like school where accomidations like extra test time, personal assistance can be done?

Thanks…

Richard,

I would advise going to the other messge boards..this place isn’t exactly crawling with messages..you’re lucky if someone ever responds! there is another ADD forum, that’s pretty good and I’m sure would be a better place to answer this question(addfourms.com)…btw, I’m in the same shoes as you(except I don’t currently have a job)..good question, that I think affect a majority of LD adults. Its frustrating..I seem to not be able to find the ‘right’ job fit(all I mostly like is sports and music, and its VERY hard to get a job in these types of fields)…the last few years I have quit like 7 jobs or something..not good!!
