higher than normal pain tolerance

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I read a study that said kids w/ ADD had higher pain tolerances than those w/o.

I’m not an S&M freak, but people think it’s weird that I’ve set my own bones and do my own stitches.

I think I don’t feel the differences in pain extremes as much. In contrast, I get irritated at a wrinkle in my sock and cringe when I hit a tangle brushing my hair.

Has anybody else noticed this trait? Is it the different wiring or just getting used to being accident/risk prone?

Strange. My DH is practically a surgeon. I never made the correlation, until your post. He’ll drill a hole in a swelling fingernail to drain it. He’ll gouge out an infected wound to avoid antibiotics. He’d do his own dental work if he had the equip! I’d be interested in that study. Do you have a link.

Dental work…my brother was severe ADD and also strapped for cash. He wanted me to pull his tooth. I almost had the vise grip fitted when I finally convinced him it was his wisdom tooth I was about to pull. He knew better than to let me pull his wisdom tooth because he heard you could get sick from the puss running down your throat and he didn’t want to miss work.
