I just so happened to stumble across this web site- http://www.ldpride.net/chapter8.htm
I hope these methods have been proven to work. I’m going to try some of them.
Re: Improving your weakness!
both the ldpride.net and ldinfo.com are interesting, tho’ I have to say LD Pride has better design (is that you, Liz?) :) Double frames are enough to drive ya bonkers!
Transfer
I sometimes enjoy doing these types of exercices, mainly for fun, but not actually for improving any general set of skills. I have a learning disability and have tried working on it by practicing techniques similar to those found on that site. While I did get better at doing those activities, I never actually noticed any transfer of ability. That is, simply because I practiced memorizing a longer string of letters in sequence didn’t mean my memory as a whole improved, I just got better at memorizing letters in sequence. And even then, if I stopped practicing for a bit, I would drop back to my previous level. I really wish I could figure out a way to improve my short-term memory (and long term for that matter, visual memory, etc….), but have yet to find something. Oh well.
I found this site very interesting. This would be a good one to post on Parenting a child with Ld. There are so many accomidations/modification to go over in these meetings it is overwhelming. This is a site I will refer to before my meetings. Thank you.
