Is it best to take a pill and live through ADD/ADHD?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My question to the audience is “Is it really best to take a pill and live through add/adhd? As far as I have heard it is best not to move onto the pill cuz once u do, u prefer not to get off it.
So is it really better to go to a doc go thru prescriptions for life or is it just the best to sit and really really focuss too much mental effort on adapting?

The pill does not cure or eliminate the symptoms of your ADD. ADD never goes away. The ritalin helps you feel better, helps you focus, and therefore makes it easier to adapt and compensate for you ADD. I’ve only been on it for 4 weeks at 34, and wish I had been on it when I started college. Just knowing you have ADD lowers your frustration level, because you now know where to start to compensate, what to seek out, and what to avoid in your life.
